Ok self taught knitters out there you should be able to sympathize at least a little bit. My Mom has wanted to learn how for a long time before i was born probably so she had a small needle stash accumulated and i think some cheap acrylic yarn. I had learned to cross stitch had attempted some needle point and i really wanted to learn to knit. pertaining to the cross my mom got this older book on needle arts which was mainly for cross stitch it vaguely explained how to knit I tried I really did. I even tried to get help from my crazy grandmother who likes to do things for you instead of showing you but she never really knit she crocheted see crazy, for any body out there who does crochet so do I really I do. So my WONDERFUL Mom bought the booklet I CAN Knit for me and some yarn , I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS FOR ANY BODY STAY AWAY FROM WAL-MART please I beg for your own sakes. So I taught my self from that I being I confident person not knowing the meaning of intermediate projects or beginning start a slightly complicated baby blanket pattern. Lets just say I have not finished it to this day, not because it was too difficult but because it was a bad knitting project...... for I beginner and I now hate it. I have ripped it out so many times it should be finished by now. By way this when I discovered the stitch and bitch books they are excellent buy them i own them all. that really helped me reteach myself what i had taught wrong. My next project was socks they were awesome I got cheap acyclic sock yarn on purpose so I could screw up if I wanted too I don't know that I would recommend that now. but they I finished in about three days and then there where the scarfs I made for people I learned how to cable in scarf I created my self. I was a junior in high school. my senior year I taught one of my teachers to knit before she went to her the class at the one and only yarn store it was great. so now I have been knitting for three years and I love it. By the way that was our long suffering cat displaying one of my first scarfs His name is Griffin.
